How can I change a suggested route in Maps for macOS?

I would have expected that it is as easy and intuitiv as it is in Google Maps where I can simply drag the route at any point to my liking. However, that seems not to be possible in Maps.

How do I do this in Maps?

519 views and no answer probably means that it is indeed not possible to change a route in Maps for macOS.

It's apparently "go my way or no way" when using this application.

This is probably one reason why Apple Maps has no real chance against Google Maps (except when using Siri for directions on iOS devices because then it is not possible to use anything else but Apple Maps).
