How can I check this on the mac? In windows XP I could see the negotiated speed, but I'm not exactly sure how to check this on my MBP. I am using an AEBS-N-Gigabit as my router.

I believe what you're looking for can be found in Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility.

"Link Speed," right?

Using Activity Monitor or the iStatPro widget would tell you exactly how much bandwidth you're actually getting, not just the negotiated speed.

I use MenuMeters for that, to check if anything is actually getting through when Safari seems stuck. Then there is iStumbler that can show the signal strength of all wireless networks available.
