Used to be able to open the App Store app on either device and there would be an ”update” tab you could click on to see available updates or recently updated apps. It’s no longer there with the latest OS. So is the only way to check for updates to do a search for each and every app installed to see if it says there’s an update available?

It has moved to be under your account. Hit the account icon in the top left corner.

That does show apps that have been recently updated but it doesn’t show apps that have an update waiting to be installed. Last week I did find my way this section described when I was trying to find out if I had an update available for an app that wasn’t working anymore. It wasn’t listed there so I searched for the app so I could check to see when the latest update date was and it was then I saw it had an update available. So it looks like we now have to search for apps to see if they have updates available.

When you get to that section pull down from the top of the screen to make it refresh. You'll see the activity indicator spin a little bit when you do this.

Another trick I learned on here is that you can long press the App Store icon and select "updates" to jump to that section.
