hi everyone,

i decide to purchase a Mac Pro for my photographic use. because i don't have 5000 euros to spend, i am to going to buy a 2nd hand machine.

i really hesitate between this two Mac

1. Year 2009 4,1 upgraded to 5,1

2, Year Mid 2010 5,1

my question is: the 2009 upgraded is stable as the original 5,1 version? it is also a professional use, the stability is very important to me. i have nearly bought it, because the spec est much better then the other.

so which one to choose?

thx!!!!!
:)

For all intents and purposes, the machines are essentially identical. Once upgraded, the 2009 model reads and believes it is the 5,1 model. The only difference would be that technically, the 4,1 is not a 5,1, and assuming there comes a time when Apple officially phases out support for the 4,1 Mac Pro, but not the 5,1 , a workaround may be required to install some future version of OS X.

That's just speculation though, as Apple will likely not phase out support for either machine for quite a while to come, and if they do, they could choose to phase out both simultaneously. My advice is simply go for the 4,1. You won't notice any difference, and you'll save a lot of money.

The upgraded 2009 is a much better deal since it has a flashed 280x in it. It's not only less money, but the 280x is a way better card than the stock 5770.

You could also try to find a barebones 2009 and upgrade it yourself. See my specs in my signature, it's cost me less than $800US so far for the tower, that's 730 Euro (I already owned the display). I still plan to add SSDs. My goal is to keep the entire thing under $1000.
