How to clone WinXP on 2 Mac systems in Vmware

I'm running WinXP virtualized under Vmware (not Boot Camp) on my iMac. I've got it setup exactly how I like it and want to move this virtual disk file to my MBP without going through the arduous process of installing XP and all apps and customizing.

I assume that if I just copied the Vmware image file from my iMac to my MBP and launch it will detect that hardware has changed and license key will no longer work.

Does anyone know if you can just buy another copy of WinXP at this point and input the new key to activate?

Hmm. . .I would be interested to see how this works in VMWare. I use Parallels and you can simply move the virtual disk from machine to machine with NO need to input serial numbers. Not sure how they do this, but I have gone from Macbook Pro 17, Macbook Pro 15, IMac, and IMac Al and never need to do enter the keys.

Wow, didn't know that. Is that latest version of Parallels? Just copy over and launch, no need to change unique SID?

It has been this way since I started using it on v2 earlier this year. I keep a copy of it on an external USB 2.0 drive and I can just plug that drive into any intel mac, mount it and run a full windows environment. . .too cool.

Happy to report that Vmware does the same thing, too cool.
