Been using Carbon Copy Cloner FREE v3.4.7 on Maverick without problems, but it now complains in Yosemite about some file not existing making the clone UNBOOTABLE!!?

Any free method to create a BOOTABLE CLONE of Yosemite FREELY?

Thank you.

I too encountered some trouble cloning Yosemite volumes. Carbon didn't work, nor did the restore function within Disk Utility.

SuperDuper worked though. :D

You can use Carbon Copy Cloner 4.02 free for 30 days. You can make a clone of Yosemite with it. It has been working well for me thus far.

And after 30 days nothing boots or restores, so why bother?

How much did SuperDuper cost you? Version?

I used CCC and cloned it fine, however i did have a problem with the cloned drive not showing up in system prefs/startup disk when I was using a different drive (and trying to startup from my newly cloned one) - I assumed that CCC had made it unbootable but when I removed all drives but the cloned one and restarted my Mac it did't see the cloned drive at first so I restarted again holding down the option key, it then saw the drive, I chose it and booted from it once and it's been fine ever since.

I haven't tried this myself but I have a feeling that it's related to the fact that Yosemite converts the install target to core storage at install time.

If you manually create a core storage target for CCC to backup to it may alleviate this issue.

:D :D :D :D

On a more serious note, it's been a while since I've tried this, but disk utility run from recovery mode can create (and restore) clones. This certainly worked in Lion and Mountain Lion.

Just use Disk Utility.

Command-r boot to recovery then launch Disk Util and go to the restore tab. Drag the Yosemite partition into the source and the external drive into the destination then click restore.

Post #11 ;) but thanks for confirming that this still works.

I believe the latest version. I downloaded it from their website after Ccc let me down. I didn't pay a dime, I believe Super Duper is donationware.

Nope, SD is payware :(

Any other way to create a FREE bootable Yosemite clone?

This thread gets rediculous, IMO.

4 free solutions provided, none of them seems to be good enough for the OP.

Time machine, CCC, Super Duper and disk utility.

@OP: get your Yosemite cloned now, it's time to go ahead.
