I would like to purchase a 27" or 30" apple Cinema Display to use with my macpro 5,1 with RX580. Can I just purchase a display port to mini display port cable in hook this up? I take in from my research it would be very difficult to hook up a 27" thunderbolt display would be very difficult.

Thanks

For the original 27" Apple Cinema Display yes - DP to mini-DP works fine. Just make sure you do not get the second Thunderbolt model.

keep in mind that the 30" Apple Display has Dual Link DVI. So the GPU should have a DVI port.

Simple adapters to DVI are single link if not stated. Dual Link adapters are quite expensive.

Thanks. My RX580 does have DVI output, I just need to validate it is DVI-D capable. It appears to be DVI-D format (without the analog pins) It is a powercolor RX580. It looks like the DVI-D connector below

I managed to find 2 30" ACD monitors for only $170 (both). I only needed and will use 1 of them. Hooked it right up to my RX580 with no problems. I just need some sound now. If I hooked up both I would need to purchase a Displayport to DVI-D converter, and those are around $80. The monitor is MASSIVE in size.
