My youngest son received a Fender bass for his birthday this summer. Not being that familiar with GarageBand, I know that you can play instruments "directly" into the application, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about making the connection.

I see a lot of stuff out there for MIDI apps that work with external devices such as guitars, but that's beyond the scope of what he would like to do.

I'm looking for simple and cheap.

If this would be better served in another MR forum, let me know and I'll repost there...

Thanks,

MD

I got an adapter plug for the line out of my guitar, just a little tiny one. I took that, plugged it into my input, and in system preferences under sound changed my input device and adjusted the slider. In garage band preferences under input you select "built in input" and let it do its thing. If he wants to hear it play out the speakers, in the info slid over in GB turn monitoring on on the bass/guitar track.
