Hey guys, can someone please explain to me how to connect the dell ultrasharp 3223qe to a mac studio? I'm at a loss for what cable to use. This is my first non apple monitor. Thanks
That's because these monitors don't scale well on Mac's. I have the 27" version of that monitor and this is what I see. Thanks guys, so this is probably a dumb question. So I used the usb c to usb c cable included. Idk if I plugged it into the right port, there's multiple usb c ports. I find I need to scale the ui down to "looks like 1920x1080 because it's way too small on default. I'm aware of the scaling issue with non mac monitors but this is realllly small.
So my question is did I plug it in the wrong port? Or is that even possible to plug it in another port and get a picture but just not the "right picture?"
When I check in system settings it's telling me Resolution 5120x2880 5k and ui looks like 2560x1440? How's that possible if it's a 4k monitor how is it on 5120x2880??
Ok yea apparently the 27 and 32 are identical besides the size, so at least I know I'm not losing it. That's what I need mine on too for it to be manageable. That's because these monitors don't scale well on Mac's. I have the 27" version of that monitor and this is what I see.
Resolution: 5120 x 2880 (5K/UHD+ - Ultra High Definition Plus)
UI Looks like: 2560 x 1440 @ 60.00Hz
Unless we have a true 5k Monitor like the MAC Studio Display or the LG UltraFine 5k we will never be able to take full advantage of the resolution.
There are others here who know more of the technical jargon than I do on this but basically that's what it boils down to.
Difference is the Studio Displays have a higher Dots Per Inch (DPI) and although the scaling might be small it's not nearly as small as it would be on a 4K monitor. There just isn't enough resolution to avoid blurry text if attempting to run at full 4k with these monitors. That's the major drawback with a Non-Apple native display.but even the studio displays, I saw them in the apple store, on default resolution I find the ui to be too small personally. Even coming from my 2012 imac I always scaled the resolution on that too. ui was too small. I mean I can read it but it's not comfortable
you must have x ray vision then because 4k on on that monitor on a mac is just stupidly small.I’ve been using the Dell Ultrasharp 3223QE with my 2017 MBP while I wait for my Mac Studio to ship.
So far I’ve had great experience with true 4k res, including UI, no scaling needed.
Sorry if this sounds dumb, but why are you guys pushing 5k into a 4k monitor?
Am I missing something?

right, I'm honestly about to send all my non apple displays back and go back to my thunderbolt displays. I'm kinda tired of playing apples games. I don't like what they did with the studio display this time, it feels kind of slimey to me. To put that tech in a shiny case and charge a stupid price just because they know there's no other glossy 5k option is kind of bs to me.Difference is the Studio Displays have a higher Dots Per Inch (DPI) and although the scaling might be small it's not nearly as small as it would be on a 4K monitor. Maybe so, I just don't see the point in having such a large 4k monitor and not taking advantage of screen real state, but to each his own.you must have x ray vision then because 4k on on that monitor on a mac is just stupidly small.
