how to connect MB to an external monitor?

i just bought an envision 19" lcd widescreen but i noticed on the apple website that the mini-dvi -> dvi adapter isnt working with most monitors and i need dvi b/c my xbox 360 is hooked up via vga at my desk..any way to hook it up besides trial and error with the adapter to see if it works.

If your monitor is DVI-D capable, you will be fine. What model is your monitor?

So it's not working on yours? I just scanned Apple's forums, and didn't see anything about DVI problems in the first couple of pages.

Check out the product reviews. I guess the MB (or is it the adapter) only supports DVI-D monitors instead of the more common DVI-I

well i looked it up and it turns out my monitor is a dvi-d so looks like i lucked out..thanks for the help though guys

I use the DVI output with my Dell 2005FPW and my new MB.

I did notice that the DVI plug on the mini-DVI adapter only has a horizontal metal tab and will not accept the + shaped tabs one of my cables had. Perhaps that's something to do with the DVI-I and DVD-D, I dunno. I had figured it was something to do with single-link and dual-link, but don't quote me on that.

However, I can say without question that the MB with mini-DVI adapter works perfectly with the Dell 2005FPW.
