I'm not sure if the Mac mini forum is the right place for this question, but I'll start here because you guys seem pretty smart. (And clever, and attractive. How far will flattery get me?)

I have a Core 2 Duo mini running at home all the time. Sometimes I have my MBP with me and sometimes I don't. What I'd like to be able to do is access the mini when I'm away from home via my iPhone 5.

I currently have screen sharing set up on my Mac mini. I remotely control the mini using my MBP, although I haven't tested whether I can do so when away from home. Is there an iPhone app that I can use to control the mini when I'm out and about? I see a few free VNC apps on the app store. Are there any that would work for this purpose or that you could recommend?

I use TeamViewer, which is free for personal use and works with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Ubuntu, iPhone, iPad, etc. It's very secure and quite simple to set up and use (no messing around with ports), which comes in handy if providing remote support to those who aren't very computer literate. You can talk them through the setup on their end and be connected to them in less than a minute. I prefer it over LogMeIn because it includes free file transfers between computers, a feature I use frequently.

Just use the LogMeIn app which is available free on the App Store. Its all you will ever need and it works really well.

I haven't tried Teamviewer, but I'm a big fan of the free version of Logmein. I tried Splashtop but didn't like it as much.

That said, I don't transfer files, I only use the remote control function, so YMMV.

+1 vote for TeamViewer. I can remote in to my Mini at from anywhere with my iPhone, iPad or laptop.

I installed TeamViewer and it seems to work very well. I was impressed with how easy it was to set up. I'll try out Logmein and I'll compare the two.

Thanks, everyone!
