Hey everyone,

I made How to Convert (available at https://howtoconvert.co)

It's a universal file converter app that does conversions locally on your device.

There are plenty of file conversion sites, but when you use them, you’re sending your files and data to their servers.
I didn’t like that and I wanted to use local tools but with a drag and drop app, so non-programmers could use it!

I originally shared it to r/MacApps here and it reached the top 10 posts of all time. My most recent update is also pinned to the top of r/MacApps, so some of you may have already seen it.

I've been getting a lot of file type requests and I have been adding them as users request them here.
Currently 2000+ document, video, image and audio conversions and compressions are supported.

I've found adding what my users want be amazing for me to know what to focus on.
So, if you have any more feedback, I'd love to hear it.

v1.1.2 of How to Convert is out!

The biggest changes are interactive cropping and an open output folder button, so you can quickly view where your saved files are after converting.

I've also added PNG and JPG to ICNS support, improved GIF, WebP, basic TXT conversions and fixed a settings reset bug.

Just to clarify, the free version is the online one available on the website, but the paid version is an actual app notarized by Apple?

Just added almost 1000 more conversions in v1.1.3.

Now it does more conversions than any other app (as far as I'm aware).

Here's a breakdown of the main additions:
  • PDF to MD/TXT/Other docs
  • PDF to images
  • Various images to ICNS
  • Image to video/video to image
  • Two-pass encoding
  • Improve bitrate conversion support
