I did a quick forum search and couldn't find an answer. I have a great song that's in real audio format that I would like to play in iTunes so I can have it on my iPod. Any suggestions on how I go about doing this? Sorry if this question is we todd id.

Was this just a dumb question or am I asking something that's a "no-no"? I'd like to find out how to convert that tune, but I'm almost as curious as to find out why I can't get a reply.

I have ffmpegx, where would I download the helix codec? I did a quick search to no avail. I've already tried ffmpegx by itself in attempts to convert the file from .ra to mp3, but it only does it in the sense that I get the .mp3 file of Zero KB... nothing there. Any help?

I just downloaded and placed it where you told me. It's still not working, and I think I'm doing something wrong. I open up ffmpegx (0.0.9d) And drop the .ra file from my desktop into the source format section of ffmpegx. In the source format section, it reads "From: rm, Video: no video, Audio: 0x0000, 160 kb/s" Is the audio section where I am going wrong? The file on my desktop is 7.1mb, but is the data not transfering or something? I am sooo confused.

hm.... could you post the output you get when you run it (click the little info icon in the ffmpegx encoder window)?
Here are the screen shots:

Well, it says "Resampling with input channels greater than 2 unsupported" so that's your error. It doesn't seem like the effort is worth it when you can "purchase"*cough*download*cough* the song online. You could try converting it to an ac3 and then from there to a mp3, or to a divx using mencoder and then extract the mp3 out of it, but that just seems like too much of a hassle.

ra to mp3 should be simple

it's never simple with MAC - why oh why lord - i tried for about half a day - ffmpegx to no avail - i deleted the thing entirely as i don't want to shorten my life any more with the amount of stress such a poorly designed program could do.
i have no other alternative apart from install windows on mac and use superC !
horray for windows again
