I use Handbrake, but I noticed today on Lifehacker that MacX DVD Ripper Pro is free until November 1st. I installed it and it's pretty much a one-click conversion to several iPad formats. You might want to check it out while it's free (and you're on a Mac). :)

Sweet. Thanks! I use Handbrake as well, and so far I haven't found anything free that works as well, and as easily. I'm definitely interested to try this out.

The fastest most effective way is to use RipIt then Elgato's Turbo.264 HD - very fast - and great looking video

You obviously haven't tried to rip any Disney DVD's.. Handbrake will FAIL.

You'll need to use MacTheRipper first to do the heavy work.

Handbrake won't encode a ripped Disney film, BUT it will encode directly from the original DVD. I had to do this with the Incredibles.

I am looking for it too.. thanks to all contributors from this forum. this forum is great, save my time a lot..
