Red Lobster or Olive Garden, then some groveling.

You might try taking her to good restaurant, actually...;)

I was figuring out the best approach a few weeks before launch... Then my wife decided that we could use it while traveling and we ordered 2 3Gs. Easy!

Posting this from our cabin in the mountains.

In all seriousness, if you do not consult your SO on purchases like this, you are just plain rude. Not that you need approval for everything, but it is just considerate to let them in on knowing. We are talking about non-essentials here. I have been married 16 years and neither one of us spends a significant amount of money without at least mentioning the intent to the other.

Secondly, if there is something Apple-y that I want, I start mentioning it when it is announced and before it ships. My wife doesn't really care that I want the new Apple product - she expects it actually - but I have found that she doesn't like impulse purchases. If she knows about it for a few weeks, then in her mind it is not an impulse.

I am pretty lucky in that cost is not really an issue and my wife couldn't care less about technology as long as it works. I will start talking about some new tech item and she will hold up her hand and ask, "How much?" LOL!

Tell her it is like ****. May not like it at first, but once she gets to play with it she will like it a lot.

Yep, no need to be sneaky. Like I said above, we've got a 200 dollar "notice of intent to purchase".

When my old lady sees the new apple commercials, she just asks "what's that going to cost us?". I always estimate 200 more to account for peripherals.

Most marriages end due to money problems. Something to think about.
