I've searched for sometime on the Internet and am not able to find any way of creating .bin/.cue files on Mac OS X (I use Tiger).

I have a bunch of files and directories (within a directory) on my hard disk and I need to create .bin/.cue files out of them. Is there any way at all to do this on Mac OS X?

Note that I'm not talking about burning .bin to a CD (I've seen a lot of articles about this). I tried Disk Utility, but it creates only dmg files. Toast 6 Titanium (which is what I have) deals only with burning .bin/.cue files on to a CD/DVD.

I do have access to a Windows machine to do this kind of stuff (after I search for the right tools), but I'd like to know how this can be done on Mac OS X.

Thanks for any suggestions/help. :)

Under the File menu in Toast you should be able to save anything as a bin/cue. Toast 7 has that ability, at least, and IIRC Toast 6 did as well...

Edit: Sorry. Incorrect post. Tried the wrong thing.

Ok, I tried dragging and dropping the files into Toast and did a "File->Save as Disk Image" and it created an image file (that I named as .bin). Is this really a .bin file? When I did a "Get Info: on that file from Finder it said it's a ISO file. How do I create the corresponding .cue file for it?

Thanks for your help! :)

Toast will create both for you automatically. When you name your .bin file and select its save location, Toast will save the corresponding .cue file in the same location. The .cue file should be in the kB for file size, the .bin file should be the larger size.

Let me know if this works. It does in Toast 7 FWIW.

Glad to know Toast 7 does it. Unfortunately, Toast 6 does not create a .cue file. I guess I'll do that on Windows for now, until I upgrade Toast. Or maybe I could search on the Internet and find out how to create it myself, since .cue is just a text file.

Thanks! :)

Hmm, are you sure it doesn't at least create one for you on your Desktop as a default location? It seems odd that it wouldn't, especially since Toast 7 does it so slick...

And no problem, any other questions, just ask.

Nope, it doesn't. I did a Spotlight search to exclude the possibility of it being in a location I hadn't saved the .bin file to.

Very odd. When I do it in Toast 7, I pick the save location for my .bin file, then Toast runs through its "burn" phase (it's of course not burning anything, just creating the file) and then both files appear.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I used to own Toast 6 as well, before I upgraded to Toast 7 (I love that app!) however never used this feature until recently myself.

FWIW Toast 7 is worth the money IMO, especially since it has all of Popcorn 1.0's functionality included in it. I understand if you don't want to spend another $70 though... ;) :)

I may, very soon (Roxio has been bugging me with repeated "upgrade and save $30" emails). :D

I bought Toast 6 Titanium about 3 months before Toast 7 was released. Toast 6 fits my needs most of the time, although Toast 7 looks more flexible (yeah, the Popcorn addition is a good thing). :)
