So I have a dorm and it has a lot of wall space and I haven't really been able to find any posters I like. Throw any ideas at me for pictures or stuff to put up on the walls. I was thinking making a mural out of photographs of the campus (like a landscape picture) or just printing out a bunch of pics I like.

The mural idea sounds nice. I'm a big fan of pictures on walls. Maybe a nice collage of random pictures.

Do you have a roommate? Do you drink? When I lived on campus way back when, we would put the top of the cardboard of every case of beer we drank on the wall. By the end of the year it made for quite a nice collage of logos. Good times.

Ahhh.... beer.

Use Rasterbator and create huge images!

They degenerate into a halftone pattern but viewed from a distance it's fine.

But I like the halftone effect.

Please, just don't put up any one of these posters:
  • Bob Marley
  • Bob Dylan
  • Marilyn Monroe
  • Breakfast At Tiffanys (Audrey Hepburn, sorry bartelby but for dorms it's just way too overdone)
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Pink Floyd
  • Scarface
  • Salvador Dalí

These are all way too played out. :D

I work for the campus housing office at a University. One thing to keep in mind is that they don't look too kindly on holes or adhesives used on the walls, so make sure you won't be charged damage fees for putting holes in anything.

If you can, use that sticky removable stuff to hang them. :)

It's not that our dorms prohibit beer because we actually drink it all the time and our resident advisor doesn't care but the problem is it's a fire hazard apparently.

In the 70's, students were big on Posters of their favorite bands, and black light posters. Some went for current bands, and some went for more classic bands. An Example. The Harvard COOP had what was probably the biggest and best poster and print department. Alas, they totally changed the store some years back, and the posters are long gone. :(

Your favorite bands or some movie posters are fine indeed, depending what you like. Bottom line: put up what you like. Allposters.com is a pretty good bet. I bought two movie posters from them, and I'm satisfied with the service.

You forgot Clockwork Orange

Maybe I'm an idiot, but how can I download and run Rasterbater on my mac?

At my uni, UCF, we aren't allowed to display anything for drugs, including alcohol. No beerpong tables. No cases of beer. Definitely nothing stacked, like pyramids of beercans, or montages made out of beer case tops. No bongs.

Also, we aren't allowed to cover more than, I think 40% of our walls. Something like that. They have a strip of 1x2 about 7 feet up on the wall, running around most of the room. We can do whatever we want to that strip of wood.

I took some plastic picture frames I had....you can find them at Walmart, they are about $1 each, clear plastic, and usually lean back a little. Well, becuase they lean back, when I tape them upside down fron the 1x2, they look really cool. So I've displayed some of my favorite pictures in those cheapie frames, and it looks nifty.

Other than that, I've got some band merch and stuff that I've collected over the years working at Cornerstone Florida festival, like, the sign the band had displayed over their merch booth, stuff like that.

And just the other day I bought a fake black rose at Walmart (halloween!) and a vase, and it doesn't really look that real, but late at night it helps put you in an emo mood.

^why that's a good thing, I dont' know. I was inspired at 1am and made a trip to the 24hr walmart.

I started university in Portsmouth yesterday (well, I moved in) and were not allowed anything on the walls at all. The area's we can put up posters, pictures etc include a notice board, our door and wardrobe.

Pretty lame if you ask me but I'm sure I'll live.

I stapled a plain bedsheet to the wall (the top two corners really high up so the holes wouldn't show) and then taped, stuck, overlapped loads of postcards and photos and small posters on it. It looked really good, and meant I didn't lose the deposit for making holes in the walls or leaving blu-tack or tape marks in them.

As it happened, in the last month, I burnt a big iron-shaped flat bit in the nylon carpet instead. :p

I second the Rasterbation idea. I have 2 hanging in my room. One of Stevie Ray Vaughan and the album cover to Hendrix's Axis: Bold as Love. If I had more space I'd cover a wall with something.

I decorated mine with a pirate flag on one wall, a bear head (not a real one) on another, and the third wall is covered with postcards from a postcard book and Edward Gorey illustrations.
