Hi All,

Can someone please give me info on how to delete a app (i.e.) MacKeeper or other apps I downloaded in the past that I don't need anymore?

Thanks in advance

You go into your Applications folder and drag the icon to the trash and empty it. If it's an App Store app, you go into Launchpad, click and hold until the apps wiggle, and then click the X that appears.

If you just want to delete the app, drag the .app file to the trash. If you want to completely remove all associated files/folders, the most effective method for complete app removal is manual deletion:

I use a program called "app zapper" for OSX, very cool app, deletes app you select and all associated files in one hit.
In most cases, app removal software doesn't do a thorough job of finding and removing files/folders related to deleted apps. For more information, read this and this.

Since you specifically mentioned MacKeeper...

I believe I had some major problems with uninstalling it the usual way. You need to download their uninstaller or they will leave tonnes of processes running on your machine.

It actually caused my machine to be unable to shut down - it was running a failing process every couple of seconds in the background.

You can completely uninstall it using the instructions in post #3.

Thanks all for the great responses..... I am new to the forum and it's great to have help from some knowledgeable people...

Thanks again

Can't believe another user scammed into Mackeeper. Look at the uninstall procedure. No way in hell AppZapper or ANY auto uninstaller will get it all before you have yet another kernel panic. Here is a tip, if you constantly are getting popups to download a "safe" kit of software DON'T. It will most likely damage your Mac. Reputable developers do not generally spam you into downloading.

It is the definition of Malware. Now change all your passwords.
