How to delete Photos app with terminal command?

Hi,

I need to delete the Photos app because it keeps popping up everytime I insert an SD card that has been formatted. Photos forgets that your options to ignore card once card is formatted. I need to get rid of this app NOW!!!!! Please help.

Due to rootless and some other reasons, removing photos app is more difficult under El Capitan. You may either install another Mac OS X and try to delete it from there, or disable rootless from recovery partition and try to delete it.
You can try to rename app rather than deleting it.

With the SD card inserted, open Image Capture in the Utilities Folder. In the lower left corner are the options that apply when the SD card is found. Pick the one that you want.

I have successfully deleted the photos app and several other default Apple apps by first booting to "cmd+r" disabling SIP, then rebooting and deleting the apps in Terminal using "sudo rm -rf " and then dragging the app from the Finder to complete the command.
After which I re-enabled SIP and rebooted.
I know it sounds convoluted but it worked for me.

I haven't tried this, but maybe someone else has. Previously it was common for third-party apps to install themselves in /Applications. Is that not supposed to happen anymore? What happens to the apps that were installed before El Cap? Are you able to remove them without turning off SIP? Has anyone tried?

SIP only stops you from messing with system stuff. Applications folder is still perfectly writeable.

It is still permitted to install applications in that folder, as it's the global (all users) applications folder.
The only things protected by SIP in that folder are Apple provided stock applications, as some of them being removed can have a negative effect on the system (ex. App Store, Time Machine, System Preferences).

AS soon as I installed El Capitan I tried to remove all of these Apple installed apps as I've done on all my previous systems and found it did not work.
After a bit of research I disabled SIP and had no problem removing these apps.
How would you explain that?

Sorry for being not precise enough. I was replying to the poster above me. What I mean that third-party apps can be installed/removed from /Applications. Apple stock apps count as system files for this, so they can't be removed.

Just saw that. It says "operation not permitted" when you try to remove it. I wonder where the registry is that has these apps included.

This only works until you format the card(which i do after every shoot). Then the app forgets and you have two apps opening up to import. Very frustrating.

There is no registry, rootless-protected files are marked by a new extended file attribute.
