How to delete recent Bluetooth devices from list?

Hey there!

Wondering if anyone can help me.. If I click the Bluetooth icon next to the clock, and then Send File, I get a list of recently used devices, even if they aren't paired/connected with the computer.

I have tried to delete these files by pressing delete, and command/backspace, but nothing. I also tried deleting the .plist files in Library, as this deletes recently used stuff (msn sign in names, for example) on other programs, to no avail.

Could somebody please help me? There's a few cell phones there that aren't mine (friends and such) that are cluttering up the list and making it more confusing than it need be. Thank you for your help

That's been annoying me too - I've got my old phones in the list that I don't even have anymore!

Click on the BT in the menu bar, go to the BT preferences and you should get this to edit any of your phones or whatnot. Hope this helps

Hmm... this is devices that doesn't show up in System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Devices, isn't it...? (If they show up there, just follow the advice above... )

I think I found a way to delete them from a pref file located somewhere other than the ~/Library/Preference folder... I'll see if I don't find it somewhere...

Edit: Nah.. cannot find anything... but that's maybe not too weird since I deleted the file(s) just a while back after testing some file transfers between some phones and our Macs. I just cannot remember if it was one of the files in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost or /Library/Preferences or maybe even that it was in one of the systemuiserver preference files... haven't added any new Bluetooth devices since so it might be as simple as I just don't have the right file(s) any more (or at least no relevant entries in existing files)...

No, unfortunatley. Like I said before, their NOT devices paired/connected to a computer, so they would not be under the device list.

They are located in this window: click the BT icon in menu bar -> Send File -> [Choose File] -> Then theres a list of recently used/previously connected items - not ones that have necessarily been 'paired' with the iMac.

Would be forever gratefull if you could find a way to do this... would make life in the future so more simple, as some devices used have the same name.. which just makes it pure HELL!

I just re-read the thread and yeah, sorry, if only that easy this sounds funny but if I can find my Missing Manual Tiger book I'll poke around in there and see if it has anything.

Not to worry! I'm glad there a place on the internet where I can come for help .. the iMac I am using is only 3 days old (Refurb) - got a cracking deal on it, cheaper than new Intel Mac mini, with a bit better spec (I do Photoshop a LOT, so for me, a 1.6Ghz G5 is faster than a Core Duo with Rosetta anyday.. upgrading the day Adobe release Intel Photoshop though .. but back on track now...) yeah its only 3 days old, so I could just call Apple, rack their brains, and post the answer here, as other posters seem interested as well.

Also, they told me my iMac would have a Mighty Mouse and Airport Extreme.. it doesn't. Do I have grounds to request these items from them? Airport Extreme on a desktop would never be used.. but I miss my Mighty Mouse.. we waited all those years for a second button!

From what I've found in the one book, going under the Bluetooth-devices- you should have a list of old/new BT devices that you can delete if you so choose.
It has nothing about the send file unless your trying to well send a file to or from that device. I know on my iMac when I had to remove the BT KB that was from Apple I did just what was said before....click on the BT icon in the menu bar-open pref. then look under devices.
Do you have the BT setup right? I mean in the settings page, do you have it, the boxes checked discoverable (that is visable).
You might want to go through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant to see what it can do for you as well. Really the book is saying the same thing, only difference is don't click on send file since your not sending a file. Look on that third page where it has Sharing. It has it where the phone in question might be in the Public folder if this was checked on that page. Other than that I'm out of ideas for your BT
As for the rest I'd call them asap and explain what you didn't get with your order and that your unhappy and are thinking about returning it because of such poor service on their part. More than likely they will send you the items as stated.
