How to delete the last photo

Trash can never appears when there is only 1 photo in photos.
Has anyone found a way to delete it?

It is likely this photo is synced via iTunes which would make the delete icon fail to appear, Connect to iTunes and sync your photos.

I did as you said, now i see a trash can but it is greyed out and will not allow me to delete the photo
'I should add that this is a Ipad Air 2 with 9.3.1 beta on it'

I found out how. I had to uncheck "Sync Photos" in Itunes, I was then able to delete all photos.
