Hello...

I have been a Mac user for a year now and now I have convinced my wife to buy an iPhone 5s, because it is cheap now and I was tired of using Android...

So:

1. Is there any way to dial a phone number like on Android? I was able to type in a name using the letters below the numbers on the phone pad. The phone would then search for matches. E.g. for Brown I would type 27696, being the numbers associated with the letters on the phone pad. As I typed, the phone directory would be searched, narrowing down as I typed in more letters/numbers. I really wish that would be possible on iOs 10? Any other idea how to deial a number from contacts, which is not on favorites list? Going through contacts is a long way...

2. Is it possible to type messages in landscape orientation?

3. Is it possible to unlock phone just with one click with fingerprint? It takes me into voice command instead...

4. Is there any way to imediately see user rating of any app in appStore, like on googlePlay?

Thanx for the answers...

Marko

Dont think what you want is possible. I think you'd find typing the start of the number brings up closest matches.

1. https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-adding-t9-feature-to-the-dialer-app.2001134/

2. Turn the phone sideways and you should be able to type in landscape mode.

3. Enable the "Rest Finger to Open" option under Home Button options in Accessibility setttings. Make sure you press the button once and just leave the finger on top of it (vs pressing the button and holding it down).

4. App ratings are there when you are searching for apps or when you are looking at the top lists. You can also see the rating of an app by going to its details.

I admit that is the one feature I love the most in Android. It is so easy to dial instead of searching the Contacts. Most of the times, I just need to tap the number corresponding to the first letter and the desired name is amongst the top 5 hits, with the most frequently dialled at the top!

Unfortunately, Apple's iOS chose not to offer that, and I don't see it coming anytime soon. Of course, that doesn't mean iOS isn't all for ease of use. For example, the omnipresent Spotlight search gives similar results. You just need to adapt to it. "Ring out the old, ring in the new" you know.

1. Unfortunately there's no real T9 type equivalent for searching through contacts. Your only 2 options are to start typing the persons name, or start typing their phone number. Those will whittle down the list.

2. Yes you can, just turn to landscape and if the drawing box appears just tap the keyboard icon in the lower right to type in landscape.

3. If you go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button and enable Rest finger to open, you can unlock the phone by clicking the home button once and just leave your finger resting on it. I think that's what you mean. I could be wrong.

4. Sorry not sure on that, been a while since I've used the Play Store.

1. From the home screen (the screen w/ all the apps) swipe down, starting from the middle of the screen. The search and keyboard should pop up with focus on the search box. You can type a name OR phone number here using QWERTY.

If you get "Recent", you swiped from too high but you can tap the search box at the top -- the gestures are confusing/convoluted on iOS 10. There's 3 different gestures that include the search but this is the direct way to find it.

2. In certain apps only, just turn sideways like others said. Make sure your screen is not rotation-locked (swipe up from off the bottom edge of your phone... the last badge at the top of the first card should be off).

3. Voice control shouldn't activate unless you hold the button down. So just click the button once and leave your finger rested on it, but don't hold down. (PS: turn on Siri if you're getting Voice Control and not Siri -- they are two different features). If you want to not even click at all, do the rest finger thing others suggested.

4. It should do this for apps that have more than just a few reviews if you search in the app store.
