I'm happy with Sonora so far, including Presenter Overlay.

But I don't want balloons to show when on a Teams call. I find "Reactions" childish and would like to totally disable them at the OS level.

Is this possible?

There s a menu that shows up when using the webcam to control Portrait Mode and Studio Lighting, and Reactions has been added. You can turn them off there.

Thanks for the reply, but I was looking at something OS-wide. This works currently with FaceTime and Zoom, but not with Teams and Skype. I probably will need to wait to have a new version of these and it might also be a beta bug, though.

But I think I shouldn't have to check every app to turn Reactions off individually.

It is essentially system wide, but I guess for some reason it does not work with those other applications. It works with google meets, which leads me to believe web browser video chats are supported, but the apps may need updated.

I hope so, because that means that, at least, I'll be able to eventually turn Reactions off in those apps.

Anyway, turning to Apple, how about those of us who dislike avatars, memojis, balloons in working meetings etc etc? MacOS is becoming TeenOS.

I did give someone a thumbs up on video the other day and was surprised when the “like” reaction popped up over my head.

It seems like it's a bug because I assumed that the reactions were added directly into the video feed by macOS before it gets to the app. Maybe that's not how it works but given that the setting works with some apps, that's my guess.

It seems that's most probably the case, which would be a good thing because it would mean that Apple would/should/will solve it in a future Sonoma beta release.

There is a button in the Control Center, top left, labelled as Video Effects (free translation from French) where you can disable that feature (Reactions).

These are so incredibly unprofessional - to have them on by default is just insane. I had to explain to a customer just now why some childish balloons appeared when I accidentally triggered the gesture.

Apple needs to 1) disable it by default and 2) give you a system wide 'Don't act like you're 6' preference.
