Hi guys!

I've been trying to find this for a few weeks now but without a chance.
If it actually can be done, could anyone post an EXACT description how to downgrade 2G iPhone from 2.1 to 1.1.4 on a Mac?

I just need to be sure that there is a safe way back should anything happen during upgrading.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Because I keep hearing about 2.1 being still buggy and not as stable as everyone hoped. Many people online still thinks that 1.1.4 is better. On the other hand I'd like to try some of those new apps, otherwise I would stick with my customized 2G...

I used an iclarified tutorial

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1504

Step 10 is a bit tricky and I had to redo the process several times before I got it done. Don't overly worry about killing your phone, I restored several times and had no issues.

When you get to step 10, it seems to place it in a restore mode, but the pwnage tool would not write to the phone. The best way is to get to step 10, reboot the phone and use iliberty to get it out of restore mode until you see emergency calls only.

Then put it back into restore mode, and run pwnage tool 1.0 on it.

1.1.4 is great if you want a phone with no lag in any apps, and want it to be reliable and stable, its a vast improvement over 2.1.

How to downgrade 2G iphone from 2.1 to 1.1.4

Dear All
Please help me to downgrade my wife's iphone which I restored by error to 2.1. Does these instruction on iclarified work with 2.1?

The instructions on iclarified do work for iphone 2g on 2.1.

As I said above the only problem I had was at step 10. After restoring the original 1.1.4 firmware the phone appears to be put into restore mode. itunes recognises its in restore mode but pwnage tool does not write to it.

The way I got round this was to use iliberty which forced the phone into emergency phone call mode only ( don't do anythin else using iliberty, unless you want to unlock using that tool ), and then place the phone back into restore mode before using pwnage tool.

All works well. I've gone from 2.1 to 1.1.4 to 2.1 and back to 1.1.4 again, no problems. ( this is on a mac ).

2.1 is so laggy in most apps compared to 1.1.4 its just not worth the extra features you get, for me.

quick question-

i had someone jailbreak my iphone 2g for me which I bought off a friend. He said its 2.1 with pwnage. Everything works fine except the voicemail button. Do you think downgrading to 1.1.4 will resolve this issue>? Im not so much worried about VVM, i just want the button (when pressed) to dial my voicemail.

Thanks for the advice!

iPhone is screwed. 2G(2.1) to 1.1.4(from backup in iTunes)

Hey folks,

I need some serious iPhone genius help. I'll be as brief as I could as well as detailed.

I have an old iPhone 2G that was running 1.1.4 wonderfully. I accidentally upgraded it to 2.1. I was a bit trigger happy, hit enter, and walked away from the computer!:( Now, I can't seem to get it out of the "USB chord" screen. Where it tells you to plug it into iTunes. iTunes wil restore and restore, but it keeps going to that 'USB chord' screen.

Well, I don't really care about it being on 1.1.4 or 2.1 I want to eBay it or something anyways, but what I would really like to get is my hands on the information from the backup for the stock 'NOTES' app. I know it's on there somewhere as sometimes, whenever I connected my iPhone and it asked me if I wanted to store, I saw the previous backups selectable. But since I am running 2.1, and have an iPhone 3G, I never bothered with it.

Basically, I could care less about the phone...if any of you would like to purchase (cheap) an iPhone 2G let me know. lol - I just want the information from the backup of the stock apple NOTES app. So if there is ANY way to get to that info without using the 2G phone that would be great.

Well, that's about it I think. If you have any questions feel free to ask...

This is the same thing I get. 1600 every time. REALLY annoying because I want 1.1.4 back so bad.
