I already have 10.8.5 installed, but wanted to keep an installer around. I followed the instructions that say to hold down the options key and click on the Purchased list in the App store.

However, when I do that, the only OS I see is Lion, the OS that I upgraded from.

If I go back to the App Store, it looks like Apple wants to charge me $19.99 again to download ML. It's possible they won't, but this is really (needlessly) confusing.

I know this worked at some point, so what's the deal now? How do I just download the installer?

I have a friend who's having the same problem.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Not quite answering your question but just wait (this week possibly) for Mavericks to come out and upgrade your computer to Mavericks. When the download finishes there, save the installer onto another folder or disk before upgrading :)

The only way I know of re-downloading it using the following steps so if that's not working for you, I'm not sure there's another way.
  • Launch the Mac App Store and hold down the “Option” while clicking on the “Purchases” tab
  • Locate “OS X Mountain Lion” in the list, and click on the “Install” button to redownload
  • Find the “Install OS X Mountain Lion” app in your /Applications/ folder when finished downloading

Edit: see this thread for a possible fix (specifically post #7) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1483127/

It just shows up in Purchases for me, I don't have to use option click to get it.

Problem solved. My bad. Turns out my wife had downloaded ML instead of me so it was on "her" Purchases tab.

Mystery solved. :)

Thanks for all the replies.
