Any way to enable tethering without jailbreaking iPhone for ATT USA?

Thanks

Sure. Go to the nearest AT&T store. Buy the 3G USB device for your laptop. Bend Over. Pay $30/month for something you could get for free if you Jailbroke your overly expensive iPhone.

To be honest, the iPhone isn't really that expensive on a new or upgraded contract.... it's actually quite a bit cheaper than the rest of their smartphones (WinMo & BB). The data plans are all the same last I checked... my wife's BB data plan was $30/month, which is what the iPhone's data plan is, and we actually paid more for her BB than her 3GS when we upgraded her line.

You've talked about tethering costing $30 on two threads, now. I don't think you know what you're talking about. AT&T doesn't offer a tethering plan for the iPhone at any price. The $30 data plan is the data for the phone itself.

Okay person...this is the third thread I've seen you come off rude right out of the gate. You need to relax. Not everyone has all the answers or knows everything like YOU do. The person said it was for the 3g USB device, not the iPhone. How about you pay more attention when you read and RELAX a little. GEEZ!!!

Alright, I'm going to dumb this down for you since you don't really have any idea what goes on here. Thelatinist did not come off as rude. The only thing he did was call someone out on being wrong and spreading incorrect information. If I were you, I would listen to what he says, considering he has a bit more clout around here than you do.

In 98% of threads, thelatinist and about a dozen other seasoned posters provide the best help and most descriptive responses to any issue, and I would try my best to not pi$$ any of them off by posting garbage like you did.

In the remaining 2%, the only time they're "wrong" is when the original poster or other person isn't specific enough in whatever they're posting.

Okay...I understand he has a lot of info, that's great. I don't really care. The fact is I have seen quite a few posts from him that come off rude, not whether or not he helps people. The fact is the response he gave was wrong, period. he said tethering, again the other person did not say that AT&T tethering costs $30 he said the USB does, you apparently cannot read posts very well either.

Ok, so the OP came to an iPhone forum website looking for information on a USB dongle from AT&T? How does it make sense to randomly start talking about something else not iPhone related? That's kind of like going to the store asking for a specific movie and the clerk referring you to the computer department to buy a pc and download the movie online. It still gets the job done, but it's not the same thing.

Regardless, you have proven your amazing intellect to me and the rest of the world. I bow to your awesomeness, and hope you continue to provide the same amount of help that you have so far in all dozen or so of your posts. Kudos to you:)

It's really too bad that it's so difficult for someone to get banned. Some people just don't deserve this site.

PdaNET FTW!

IMO, Why bend over for $30/month for a 3G USB Dongle on your laptop if you already own an iPhone?

Simply Jailbreak your iPhone, install PdaNet, and you got unlimited tethering for free.

hi mofolo,

just got a new iphone 3gs today from the apple store, with 3.1.3. following the link you gave, choosing USA and AT&T (Beta), and then 'download', gives me an error "Invalid profile; Profile format not recognized"

so as of today, no unlocked/unjailbroken tethering with 3.1.3 on ATT USA!

The Benm hack will not work on stock 3.1.3 firmware.

Dont get your hopes up :)
Currently you cannot downgrade a 3GS on 3.1.3 that doesnt have its SHSH's saved thru cydia.

ok, thanks for clearing that up.

for the record:
  • brand new 3gs w/3.1.3
  • carrier = at&t
  • just want tethering, not interested in unlock/jailbreak
