I need help here. I want to set-up a website and Skype system to teach English lessons over the internet.

Please advise.

My goal would be to have a simple site where students could buy points or credits that are good for video chats. They would be able to book their time using a calendar with appointment availability online.

Currently I use Skype for chats with family/friends and it seems that it would be fine for my small business. Ideally I would be able to share pages from a textbook online or a page that I design. I'm not sure if that's possible through Skype.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

oh yeah, 2nd question

As far as my workflow goes would you suggest that I just check bookings on an online calendar system or would it be possible for students to book on the calendar on the website and that updates with iCal automatically???

There are calendar systems out there that could meet your needs. I haven't used them myself though so can't recommend anyone in particular. You'd only want to let people who have registered to be able to make appointments and also setup limits as well so no one tries to book entires weeks at a time or something. Also, know that despite a person's best intention, you'll likely have a number of people who don't make it for their appointments. It's just inebidable.

thanks . .

Yeah, ideally I'd like to set-up something with Paypal and once a student has purchased their credits they can then login to the site and book lessons. I can set up a cancellation policy.

Maybe building a website with paypal and calendar synced together is better left to a professional.
I was hoping to spend a week or two and build it myself, but I'm leaning towards just spending the money to hire this and do it right.

Anyone have any recommendations for designers who can help me?

or experience to share . . .

iweb or .mac

re: calendar

I was hoping that maybe iWeb had the ability to synchronize with iCal through .mac and thus i could schedule lessons.

found some possible solutions

For anyone who read or will read this thread here are some websites I found that specialize in reservation/booking:

Hi there, im not sure wether you have any experience of writing php, but this system could easily be made yourself. If you dont have any experience why not get the site built for you by a professional? i know a really excellent web firm >> www.mcfluffit.com << but then again i might be slightly biased towards them ;)

Hi,
I don't know how much you are familiar with php but there are several e-learning platforms that could be useful for your purpose.

Among them I suggest you dakeos

Hope this helps

If you are interested on posting your video lessons on various subjects I have a small website where you can upload video lessons and earn money for yourself. This program allows you to insert third-party ads within video clips shown on our website. For this program to work a user only needs an account with the major Affiliate Networks ( Click Bank, Commission Junction) and he is ready to earn money for himself. I can provide you with the URL if you wish to send me a private message.
