i'm not sure if this is in the right part of the forum, but let me explain the problem.

i want to do some sound design for a comic my illustrator friend drew, but it was quite a while ago and now all he has a quite a small jpeg file and not the original photoshop file.

is there a way to enlarge the picture without loosing quality. by just zooming in it gets pretty bad, but i thought maybe theres a trick i can do in photoshop to get everything looking abit better.

thanks

I would have to search around but there are programs that are going to be better in terms of mapping new pixels. Nothing is perfect because when you enlarge you add pixels and standard applications will simply use the pixel right beside and copy it. Other apps will make better use of algorithms that can help with pixel mapping. Basically you'd want to search something like that. Alternatively, since you know the original artist you can ask him to redraw. That would be best.

Use Abobe Illistrator

I think if you use Illistartor, it will build new pixels. I actually have no experience with it but asked a friend of mine when I was working on a project that I need to do the same thing. That is what he suggested to me.

You can enlarge it a little in Photoshop. Using Bicubic Smoother in small increments. Or purchase Genuine Fractals. But you can only enlarge it so much without getting pixelated. Otherwise, as was suggested, maybe your friend could use an enlarged version as a template and redraw it.

thanks for the advice guys. i found a place online called reshade that seemed like good enough quality. just gonna try the bicubic smoother tool on photoshop and compare the results.

unfortunately he doesn't have the time to draw it again, he's a pretty busy guy. you should check out his work at http://sammooreillustration.co.uk/ :)

Illustrator is completely different from Photoshop. Photoshop is a bitmap based program where Illustrator is a vector based program. Illustrator files you can blow up to any size you want and you will not lose any detail what so ever. That is the beauty of Illustrator.
