iCloud how to exclude a folder within a folder in iCloud ?

Hello friends
I backup my desktop to iCloud. I recently upgraded to a 1tb ssd. I now added a feature to Lightroom that will safe large amount of data to the Lightroom folder.
How can I exclude a specific folder within that folder, ideally without deleting the whole LR folder first.
I just do not want the preview folder loaded to the cloud
any help appreciated

Move the folder off the desktop and replace with an alias ?

No I would like to not include "subfolders".
