I tried everything else and nothing seemed to work to get my AirPods Pros to update to latest firmware. An idea came to mind...tried it and it seemed to work. Here's what I did...

First I had the AirPods case, earbuds and iPhone plugged in and at 50% charge.

Then I opened up the AirPods case triggering the pop up screen on my iPhone.

I left the case open and the pop up active on my iPhone for about 3-5 minutes.

Then closed the case, went to check the firmware and to my surprise it was updated.

Hope that works and helps everyone out.

I'd like to know how to avoid a firmware update but can't find any such info--nor info on how they're handled. Reason is many of the complaints I read about, plus updates tend to change things and use more battery eventually.

What about switching the phone's wifi off and blocking mesu.apple.com at the router and also turning background app refresh completely off? Fixed my iPhone and Watch from bugging me about updating.

Sorry, but I don't accept 'impossible!' as a response. Even Windows 10 you can disable all updates by taking ownership of Windows\System32 and deleting both taskmgr.exe and musnotifyicon.exe.

I suppose if you want to go to extremes you can find a way to block rational updates. Its boggles the mind why you even bother getting Apple products, given your rationale.

I want my devices to not suddenly change and make me relearn everything again, or slow down the device or use more battery. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Why that concept is so unheard of today is ridiculous. It's MY device, I want to have it work MY way.

Besides, given the complaints about reduced ANC and other issues like battery drain, why bother updating? they work, don't they?

Doesn't matter if it's Apple, Android, or Microsoft--they all think alike today. Also, I don't buy anything new anymore. I stopped in 2019. I'm pretty much set for life with devices from all platforms. I'm wanting to be more anti-consumption and lower my footprint, or have you become completely unaware of the drastic effects of e-waste and infinite consumption?
