How to get 120hz to my HDTV from Mac mini?

I have my 2010 Mac mini hooked up via HDMI to my Denon receiver, which is in turn hooked up to my HDTV. I can only get the mini to push 60hz. Why can't I get it to push at least 120hz? Should I try to get more hz via SwitchresX?

Can I assume you've got a 120 Hz LCD TV? If so, it doesn't actually accept 120 Hz video, it simply refreshes the screen at a 120 Hz rate. 60 Hz is the highest video signal that HDTVs can accept.

The reason that TVs have the 120 Hz refresh rate is to cut down on motion blur. It also makes it possible to do frame interpolation. And it also allows TVs to do 5:5 pulldown on 24 Hz film-based material to eliminate 3:2 judder.
