There's a way in your web browser that you can copy the URL of the app and get the image without the over lay so you can make better icons. Does anyone know how to do this?

Just take a screenshot and cut it down.
Meh, easy enough I guess. I just remember another way to get better images without the over lay.
I always rely on a trusty google images search, failing that you could try appshopper they have reviews and notifications of new apps they come with the icons on the webpage too.
there is an unmentionable website aswell which could be handy it has 100x100 icons direct from iTunes..... may have to pm me for that link
