How to get Apple to fix your iphone fore free

My iphone 2G using firmware 2.0 keeps on turning off randomly. I will be in the middle of playing a game, watching a movie, listening to music or sending a text message and it will turn off!

After reading the posts here I noticed that a lot of people have this problem too. I reseted the phone and did the jailbreak and unlocking again thinking this will help, but didn't. So today I made an appointment to go to the Genius Bar. I checked Apple online and it says my phone is still under limited warranty.

My question is how can I get apple to fix it for free or give me a new iphone since I unlocked it and jailbroked it? Can I just delete cydia? Or do I have to delete everything b4 I take it to them or can I just leave it and take it?

first of all...does your phone do this when you are not jailbroken? I wasn't clear on that by your post. because if it doesn't then you have no reason to take it to apple. they will probably reject it. secondly. if you do take it to apple restore it to original software before you go. you don't want to take a chance of them finding out that it's jailbroken so they can use that as an excuse to not replace your phone

The problem is that I don't have AT&T, so if I restore it than I have to activate it and I don't have AT&T. I don't know if the phone works perfectly or not without unlocking it because I don't have AT&T.

Don't think you will find a solution then. It needs to be locked to AT&T and not jailbroken for Apple to even listen to you.

I wonder if you can sign up for AT&T to activate then restore then take it to Apple. Then Cancel your contract and re-unlock it? Dont know if that would work, just a thought.

When I had occasion to call Apple Care about my iPhone about a year ago, the first thing they asked for was my phone number. I assume they checked it against an AT&T database before they even asked me what my issue was..

Okay, you don't need a new phone. With the Pwnage Tool, the unlock is almost permanent. So if you just normally update via iTunes, it will keep the unlock while not jailbreaking your phone. Jailbreaking causes a lot of slowdowns, especially when you install Cydia along.

Here is a solution. Go to your nearest At&t store and get yourself on a prepaid account. They will issue you a new phone number along with a sim card. Put $5 on the account (that is the minimum). Use Pwnage or Quickpwn to jailbreak (and unlock if you choose) but be sure to not install Cydia and Installer. Also, leave the custom boot logos out. Assuming the phone has been activated on an actual At&t account at some point you shouldn't have any problems. Just tell them that you are using it on a prepaid account if they ask and say you have a friend who can activate a new one on his/her account for you (assuming Apple replaces the phone). I've done this a few times and it works well

My headphone switch is broke (can only use speakerphone), and Apple will not cover the phone because I'm not on AT&T. I'm going to follow your recommendation, but how do I wipe the unlock completely off the phone? I know you can restore the phone to factory settings, but I heard that Apple can still see if it has ever been unlocked despite this. Is there a way to "clean install"?
