I have been successful upgrading the iPhone, iPad, and Mac desktop and everything syncs to the cloud. I can't figure out how to make my calendars show up on my Laptop. It only shows Anniversaries as a calendar but not my regular calendars. Please help.

what is your lap? is it mac-based lap or pc? if it is mac-based, you need to upgrade your mac os x to 10.7.2 which has iCloud support built into Apple apps like iCal, Address Book, etc. After that just configure iCloud account in your upgraded mac os and open up iCal app, and your calendars would show up there.

I didn't think you had to have loaded Lion on your Mac in order to use the iCloud. I don't even have enough RAM on my macbook to load it, so now I have to buy a whole new computer to use the iCloud?

You need Lion 10.7.2 to use iCloud. If your computer cannot load Lion, you will need a new computer.
