How to get contact names to show against iMessages in MacOS without international dialling code

Hi all.

The only way I can get a contact name to appear against an iMessage thread in MacOS is to have that contact in my contacts with the international dialling code in front of their mobile number (so +44 7.... instead of just being able to have it is 07....).

Does anyone know how to get iMessages to appear on a Mac with a contact name without having to have the number stored in contacts with the international dialling code?

I want my contacts to be in the local format rather than international format.
