I've just updated my new iPhone to firmware 2.2 and can't seem to get the distances in Google Maps to a nice UK-friendly form of miles, rather than kilometres.

I've checked that all the settings are set to UK in "International", but this doesn't seem to fix it. Can anyone help?

Thanks :)

I thought the UK was metric?

Nope. All road-related stuff is imperial, and a few months ago, the EU ruling was overturned that prevents shops selling in metric, so now you can buy stuff in pounds & ounces again.

If I were to change to non-UK English (which I assume is US), what differences will there be?

I'm so glad we can ask for a quarter of strawberry bonbons again without being arrested.

But, but, pounds and ounces and miles just make no sense :(:eek:

Pretty soon you'll be way back in time with feet, inches and Fahrenheit like the Americans.

Nooooooo......

Differences between US and UK measurements? I think the only differences are on volumes. Such as gallons, liters, quarts, pints, ounces, and cups... thats all

I meant differences on the iPhone, like how it operates or keyboard differences?

i have also noticed this. If you change the settings from UK to USA it goes to miles, which is no use to us.l looks like a bug

I have kept my iPod Touch on 2.1 mainly because of this reason

In 2.1 it used to give distances in what the country uses, now everything is set at what your home country is set to

2.1 gave me

UK in miles
France in KM
Australia KM
US miles

2.2 gives me all countries in KM

For gods sake, another misleading thread title

I came in here as the thread title is "How to get Google Maps distances in miles, not km (iPhone 2.2)"

Not

"Does anyone know how to get Google Maps distances in miles, not km? (iPhone 2.2)"

Sorry to be pedantic but your thread title is not a question

I thought you'd found a solution too.

If it makes you feel happier I have found a temporary solution - switch the language to US English.

And I've added a ? to the thread title.

A bug which still hasn't been fixed in 2.2.1! Hurry up Apple, get a move on fixing this! I have absolutely no idea how far things are in Google Maps now on my iPhone.

I have given up waiting for an update to get this fixed and if I need directions to somewhere just use the google maps home page in safari

It seems that when bugs only affect the uk they never get resolved

Feedback sent

Quite a useful form that, thanks. I sent my feedback, and i'm sure lots of others have done the same. Hopefully it'll make a difference.

It does seem to be a rather large oversight on Apple's part.
