Hi,

I've got my 13" Macbook Pro connected to a 37" 1080p LED television using a mini-displayport to HDMI cable. The MBP is my only HD source until Freeview HD is rolled out here. YouTube HD and BBC iPlayer HD both look great - the MBP has no problems handling it.

Unfortunately there isn't a huge amount available on these sources and my internet connection isn't really up to streaming HD content except during off-peak hours.

So I'd like to have HD content stored on the hard disk. I've looked into iTunes but it seems HD content is only available to those in the US. The SD content appears to use DRM which means I can't view it on my phone.

My question is how can I legally get 720p/1080p HD movies and TV shows, in the UK, preferably without DRM, onto my Macbook Pro?

Thanks :)

To do it legally it is quite difficult.

There are some HD TV shows on iTunes in the UK, it is just movies that are all SD.

I don't know whether any of the other rental options have HD, but you say that your internet connection is not up to it.

The best method, which isn't strictly legal, but won't actually cause you any problems is to rip from Blu-Ray's that you own. It's a bit of a pain to do, but not to hard.

I'm sure someone will come up with another option that I don't know about, but I'm sure there aren't many.

By the way, what phone do you have? If it's an iPhone then you can play iTunes purchases on it.

Thanks for the reply :)

I guess I might have to make do with SD movies from iTunes for now then. I might look into getting a blu-ray player for the MBP though.

It's an Android phone (a Wildfire).
