I've got a problem with my new M1 Mac mini I can't seem to figure out.

I have a Sony 4K TV (XBR-65X90CH) which I had previously hooked up to my Apple TV 4K. It works fine with the Apple TV in both HDR and Dolby Vision over an HDMI cable. However, with this new Mac mini, I'm unable to get HDR turned on when I run at 4k 60Hz. If I use SwitchResX to change it to 4k @ 30Hz, I see the "High Dynamic Range" option enabled in the Display settings, but when I switch back to 60Hz it goes away.

I've tried a few different cables I bought off Amazon to try to get it working, both USB-C to HDMI and normal HDMI 2.1-compliant cable. I can't get any of them to do HDR at 60Hz. My Apple TV has no problem with this on the same input on the same TV with the same cable, so I have no idea why the Mac isn't able to do it either. Is there something I'm missing, or do I just not have the right cable? Any insight would be appreciated.

I think the 1st gen AppleTV 4K only did 2160p HDR at 30 FPS (2160p SDR at 60 FPS). It had a HDMI 2.0 port, not 2.1. So that might be a bad way to check the HDMI cable.

The HDMI port on the M1 mini is also only 2.0. You might need an Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI 2.1 cable adapter.

Thank you for the response. I think I figured it out. I had plugged in the PC to the same HDMI input as the AppleTV, which I thought was working with HDR, but really seemed to be limited to 30Hz like you mentioned, as that's all I could get the Mac to do.

The TV also only has one HDMI 2.1 port -- the spec sheet online said all four were HDMI 2.1, but it's actually only one port. After switching the cable to that input I am able to get HDR at 60Hz with both a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter as well as just a HDMI cable.
