How to get high resolution photos on the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Hi,

Yesterday I got my iPhone 16 Pro Max and I’ve to say I can’t see any notable differences with my four-year-old 12 Pro.

I saw that my photos are 12MP. And I think there lies the issue (partially). I’ve tried various settings options but can’t work out how to shoot 24MP photos (in camera settings I’ve selected 24MP).

And does anybody know why I only sometimes have 48MP photos when flash is turned off? With flash on it’s always 12MP.

Above story is all with 1x lens.
