I use Igoogle as my home page because I have added weather, google reader, fox news, gmail, and the map gadgets all set up on it. As many have discovered when you visit google on the iPad, it will redirect to the mobile version. Here is how I got around it.

I simply set a bookmark on the bookmark bar for the non-mobile URL. Once youbget to the google site, scroll down to the bottom and you will see a link to the classic version. Once there, that is the sitebyou want to bookmark. You should be good to go.
