Good Morning.

I just wondered if anyone could help me, I had my phone stolen from me a couple of weeks ago, thankfully I got my phone back from the police but the thief ended up taking my phone to a cash shop and factory reset my phone some how. I've lost everything off it. I have a 32gb sd card at home, I tried to put that in my phone as it was full of photos that hadn't been backed up yet and because of the factory reset there is nothing left on my sd card. I just wondered if any MAC users could tell me of any software I could download to get the images back and restore them? I've googled it and found quite a lot, but just wondered if anyone could tell me of any that actually worked for them?

Honestly I would be so grateful for any help as I have photos on there of a relative who has passed away, I was stupid enough not to back them up but I didn't expect my phone to be stolen.

Thank you

Just checking. By phone you mean iPhone, right?
No sorry, it's a Sony Xperia XZ, I've checked google photos and they never backed up and the memory card just appears empty on the phone and on the computer. Hopefully there is still a way to get them back :(

There are many ways to get the photos back.
Every time you access the card you lessen the chance at recovery.

I use Kali Linux to recover files using foremost. The tool might be a bit of an overkill for just photos and can take a long time, so use a powerful machine to run Kali natively( not in a VM ). Another good kali recovery tool for photos is recoverjpeg. It is much simpler and faster. It recovers about 90% of what foremost gets.

If it was just photos, I'd run recoverjpeg first, see if you get everything you were looking for. If not run foremost right afterwards.

PS. Kali, foremost and recoverjpeg are free tools.

Thank you for replying, would you be able to talk me through how to use the recoverjpeg tool? I have a MAC, would it work on that or do I need a PC? My step dad has a PC and deals with IT for a living so he might be able to help me through it if you can give me a little more information if possible?

And thank you again for replying and your help

Probably not through a forum. Point your stepdad to my post and let him take it from there.
You can run it on a Mac ( they are *nix based ).
Instructions here ( I have never tried this, I use Kali ):
