I bought a book through the kindle app, but how doI get it onto the iPad? Am I missing a setting on the kindle book page, or is it there to be found? I definitely bought it and it is in the purchased items section, thanks

You mean you just bought it after you loaded the app on the iPad? It should WhisperSync automatically. You did tell Amazon to send it to *that* registered 'Kindle', right?
Or did you mean you have previously purchased books and you can't find them. I've done both of these on the iPhone and now the iPad, so, they do work.

If this means you can see it in the app on your iPad, I'm confused. It should be synced and you should be able to click on it and open it.
Usually, the process for getting a book into the Kindle app from the device is to go to the Archive folder, where you should see a list of all purchased content. Then when you click on a book, it whispersyncs it onto the device.
To get a kindle book onto your iPad, you put your amazon account info in the kindle app on your iPad and the next time you have the kindle app running and are in range of wifi or have 3G on, the books should show up. If they don't then go to the archived items section of the kindle app on your ipad and click them and they will show up. Once you have this working, your iPad will show up in the manage my kindle section of the amazon web site.
oK got it. I had to go back to the site (app) twice, but the second time it synced, thanks for the info. I guess it didn't register me leaving or something, dunno. Gonna be interesting comparing that and iBooks.
Glad you found it... once you get used to it, both take buying books to the 'instant gratification' level of iTunes and music/video. 
About the only thing I like better about iBooks is the two-page landscape view. I figure Amazon will add that to Kindle, though.

I note something interesting and want a book on it, and can get it RIGHT NOW, without waiting! I too like the iBooks better than the kindle layout though, after a few kindle pages down. Kindle is just kinda like reading a document, after turning pages and using the landscape iBooks theme. However, I find more titles I want at amazon, than in iBooks (so far). So I guess I like having both worlds, with a B&N chaser, of course.

Well, Amazon, and Kindle, have been around a lot longer than Apple has been in the book business! And, I think Amazon will always have an edge because of the habit many people have of writing reviews there. Number one reason I use Amazon (well, that and Amazon Prime. ).

It's possible to get your kindle books into iBooks, but it involves removing the drm and I'm sure they'd rather we not get into those details here. Still, amazon's superior content did get me to buy some things, and I was happy to discover it's possible to "jailbreak" these books for use in other apps/devices.
