Stuck in the middle with you
I use my ipod in conjunction with the AUX plug on my car stereo. Right now, I have a cable coming from the headphone jack, and an old Monster FM transmitter/Charger in the dock plug to give it juice. I want to get Line Out quality sound, and I only want one wire going in and out of my ipod. Is there any other way to get a line out signal besides the dock?

thanks

You could use the 2.5mm jack plug (the headphone socket on the top) via a suitable cable to RCA connectors (your Aux connectors.) This is how my iPod plays films on my TV. However this method does not give out a steady pre-out signal i.e. if you change the volume on your iPod, this will change the volume of the output. The iPod volume should be set roughly 1/4 to 1/2 half way to give the best results.

Sorry, mis-read your question. You said you didn't want to use the headphone jack.
Have a search on e-bay for iPod accessories, it might come up with somthing. I have a combined car holder, charger and FM transmitter which gives decent sound quality but not as good as a pre-out.

Oh, snap, I've never seen one of these in person before, but look at this:

Sorry, Won't work, as I also need to get power to the ipod through the dock connector.

And many, many other options.

Sesshi, Thanks! If anybody else has any other ideas, keep them coming!

I mean, there's HUNDREDS of stuff like this from the Belkin type to the Dension type and everything inbetween. Why not have a hunt around?

I looked superficially for one for a while and then decided to post here. After all, us MR people need something to discuss! anyways, I think I can find one now that I've been pointed in the right direction.
