How To Get Maps in xGPS

Hey now! I just downloaded xGPS for the turn by turn directions i've been reading about. When I open it i only see a map of the UK or somewhere over seas............. so anyways, I want a map of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. How and/or where do I download them? I'm not the smartest hacker on the planet, but I'm not finding this app to easy to use. Btw, i've tried swiping across the world all the way to the US with my finger, and then just tapping on PA, but then I have a ton of MBs of maps downloaded. It must download every time i swipe i guess. anyone have an easy way?
PS - How do u all like the turn by turn? does it work well or no?

Spread your fingers over the area that you want to download. Start with a small spot and work your way up....two fingers, then open them.
