Is the App store the only way to purchase Mountain Lion Operating system?

I would like to get physical media with the Operating system. Does Apple provide a method of verifying a error proof download through the App Store?

In the past, you could buy either a DVD or a flash drive with the OS on it. But this time, it's download only. As the above poster said, you could download it to an external drive and then install from there.

However, the OS is 3.4 (approx) gigs and hefty for storage. Once you download it from the App Store, it shows up in your purchased list as being available for download - even though you've already downloaded it once. You can put it on several (can't remember how many) computers without incurring additional charges - or re-download it at any time, should you need to do so.

So, essentially, Apple is storing it for you.

Thanks for the info

Don't you think its a bit risky downloading a complete operating system. i know it is done with O.S. like Ubuntu. But I have heard of people having problems downloading Mountain Lion.I myself have had the App Store become unavailable for periods.

Has anyone tried downloading and if so is there a verification of the Operating system such as a MD5 hash?

I downloaded and installed to my 2009 MBP just fine. Upgraded RAM to 8 GBs, even better. :)

I have a DSL connection. Haven't lost internet since I bought my Time Capsule in 2010.
I don't know what a MDS hash is, but I got all the correct notices, like I did with downloading Lion last year.
