I lost all my music library but fortunately, most of it is in my good old 160gb iPod classic. Do you know any OSX software to get music from the iPod to my external HDD? I remember using an app like that on my Windows Laptop few years back.

First, it all depends whether the songs you need to transfer are copyright DRM protected or not. If they are, you'll need to use iTunes to transfer them [and register your computer to play the songs]. and then copy them onto your HDD.

If they aren't DRM protected, one program I recommend to help you achieve your goal is the free version of the app Sync iOS. I've found it extremely helpful, easy to learn, and guided on how to import songs onto your laptop.

I've used Sync iOS on multiple occasions to import music from a Apple device into my iTunes and Media-Monkey libraries when iTunes refuses to cooperate with my request

I've never used the OSX version through but, I've been told it has the same capacities as the Windows version.

Sorry, I just saw this.
I lost thousands of songs only to remember they were still on my Classic.

I used sharepod

Very happy.
