How get off iCloud without losing all my photos. If I do get off iCloud does that turn off the sharing feature with multiple devices? What are other pitfalls? Appreciate linking previous thread on this matter; I'm sure not the first to ask. TY! /fro

I would make sure that all your photos are locally stored as individual files before doing anything with photos in your iCloud account. You may have to export them to do that.
Yes, to share your photos on other devices you need iCloud. There are other services that may provide this service as well. There are ways to manually move photo copies to IOS devices. The one exception to this that I know is that if you use Home Sharing then photos are accessible on an Apple TV.
