I lost my iMac in a divorce and consequently all of my photos. I have an Apple TV that still has all of my photos on it. Is there a way to get he photos off of it and back into iPhoto and will they be the same resolution as the originals? Thanks.

Interesting?
Be nice to her for one moment and ask if you can copy those items off her iMac (exteranal drive etc) or buy a new iMac and sync it with ATV (maybe)

Similar thing happened to me, just lost the iMac not the wife though.
The only way I know to get them off is to hack the aTV. This is realy easy and only requires a working usb stick I am technically challenged and I got it to work. There are a lot of threads to this topic and I can recomend this wesite:
code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/ they helped me.
Then once hacked I used FTP (Cyberduck) to transfer the photos onto my Mac.
My photos were the same resolution when I got them off but then they were only 2 or 3 Mb per Photo anyway.
Maybe there is another way but that is easiest I think.

I think if you sync the iMac with the aTV and the Photos are only on the aTV then the photos are deleted from the aTV. Cos it's only copying Photos in one direction. iMac -> aTV. (I think)

Can you point me to some threads which will explain this? Thanks.

Go to this site
code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator
they explain how to do a software hack, if it doesn't work the first time use another USB stick. I tried three noname sticks before I got it to work.
The crack enables the FTP protocol on your aTV. Somewhere in the hack (readme.doc) they tell what name and password are being used. Remember it.
Then download cyberduck, it's free.
Then go into the aTV settings and look what ip your aTV has.
Start Cyberduck type in the connection field "ftp://[ATVipaddress]" [enter]
enter name [hit enter] password [hit enter]
After a few seconds you should get a list of the folders on your aTV
Then you have to search for the photos just like in any browser.
Sorry but my aTV isn't hacked at the moment so I can't say exactly what it looks like.

Thanks! I think I'm almost there, but would really appreciate a bit more assistance..

How do I find this? I searched on my patchstick and found no "readme.doc"

Still hoping for help

Still trying to save my photos--now it looks like they're corrupted--or worse. Can anyone tell me where to find the readme.doc file so I can get the ID and password and get in there and save my past?

Do you still need help?
This is from another thread here in the forums.

I recently messed up my itunes library and had to do this.
Go to this site and download the program... (depending on windows or osx)
http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/

Use pretty much any usb drive with the program and plug into the appletv.
Anyway, this enables SSH on the atv.
Then use.....
http://cyberduck.ch/
or windows use...
http://winscp.net/eng/index.php

This is an ftp program to access the appletv. Find your ip address from the general settings on the atv
Ip: 192.168.0.x (or whatever it is)
Port: 22
User name: frontrow
password: frontrow
You put this information into your FTP programme.

Browse to the aTV drive and look for your files.
I'm not sure anymore (telling from memory) but maybe the photo names
have been changed. Just look for the file type i.e. jpg, tiff, or whatever.
