Maybe a dumb questions, but every suggestion for this on google does not work - their new "AI" answers are laughable. Look at my screenshot, at the bottom of the home page or whatever it's called, are 4 'open' tabs. None of them have any "X" or red dot to just close them out. How the F do I get rid of them?

That's not a tab, that's a 2nd and 3rd instance of Safari. Tap on the one you want to close, then the 3 dots at the top, then "Close"

I was using 'tab' generically. I forgot to mention I'm using a wireless keyboard/mouse, not using it as a touch screen. When I turned off Keyboard/mouse, I can swipe the open safari's up and away, according to a youtube clip. That seemed to remove them from the visible screen, whether they're actually closed, I don't know.

Just use the 3 dots, as suggested above

Those come up, I think every time I open Safari, and I just tap on the page in the background to make those "thumbnails" go away. I'm not sure if there's a way to turn that feature off, but there's probably a way to make use of the "extra pages". I wonder if they are recently opened web pages. I'll have to pay attention to them for once.
