I recently upgraded from 10.6 to 10.10 and find Mission Control a total disaster and a step back when accustomed to work with 4+ desktops. E.g., it is impossible to (i) view all desktops in a matrix form (small rows only), (ii) to view all windows on all desktops at once (only possible to view all windows on one desktop at once) and (iii) to migrate one window from any desktop to another one freely. Are there any *free* apps out there that emulate the Expose and Spaces from 10.6 ? Apple *should* give the option for users to revert to Expose - especially considering the terrible downgrade Mission Control (aka Mission Impossible) is.

When I first upgraded from Snow Leopard I also lamented the loss of spaces and Expose... it is not available in the OS, and I was not successful at finding a 3rd party app to replicate the old behavior.
That being said, I now use mission control all the time, and find it very effective and functional. Just a matter of adjusting old habits and workflows to get used to the new tools. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I wanted to throw it out there.

Total Spaces http://totalspaces.binaryage.com does a good job of reverting to the old Spaces format.

Yes I am indeed aware of this app, hence the highlight on the word *free* in my original post. I have been using Expose for about 6 years and, being a programmer, I find it cumbersome to adjust to a new software which does not feature the capabilities of the original app. Apple should adapt their source code for Expose so that the compiled executable runs on Yosemite (and all OSs for that matter). I find it shameful of the developers of total space to charge for this app - it should be made available on sourceforge for free because the original idea of the software pertains to Apple.
fongyuen - I have never been "nagged" once by this app in 4 years. It does however notify me when there are updates.

Ive been using TotalSpaces for years now and i think $18 is a small price to pay for years of what i find is a useful tweak. Personally i find Mission Control unusable & anything that stops me having to use it is most welcome.

I upgraded from a HIGH-END Toyota (Snow Leopard) to a LOW-END Lexus (Yosemite), and the latter omitted the rear camera that is supposed to be a safety feature. And I expect a third party supplier who can supply a rear camera be fitted in for FREE, since Lexus already provided the slot and the necessary cables (hereby known as executable codes) for the installation of such accessories.

Stay on SL then. It's not as simple as 1,2,3...this isn't a standalone app in a sandbox. Apple evolved Exposé into MC, and with that brought new features and removed others. If you had coded TS, would you not have charged for it? I am sure you would have. No one works for free.

Expose was designed to emulate what Linux developed several years before-Before Expose (e.g., on OS Tiger 10.4), I remember that Mac users had the option to download a free app called multiple desktop or desktop manager (red, green and blue rectangular icon) - which at the time worked great.

It actually is marked on the download button on their Web site that it is a 14 day trial .
If you are using it in TRIAL mode - of course its going to ask you to register. Trial mode is just to see if it suits you. then you buy it and the messages stop.
